Camille to his many friends, was a late-blooming Neoclassicist landscapist. Shy, but with the aid of a persistent Saturn rising, he eventually painted the hell out of France and Italy. For the mid-1800s, it wasn’t groundbreaking work, but it is dizzyingly beautiful. Underrated now, he was widely admired and praised — even by Degas and Monet and the young turks of his time. His strength was a transparent eye and the ability to imbue emotion into real life; the Gemini and Cancer powers.
